Documentary Wedding Photographer
Documentary, which means documentary based on a specific document, is used for photography and the documentary in question becomes the photograph itself. The most important feature sought in a documentary is that it reflects reality as it is and is as natural as breathing. The aim is to preserve what is wanted to be told in its most aesthetic form and to pass it on to generations.
Your wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most important days of your life. We see that weddings have a special ritual in every culture. When you start thinking beyond the Bride-Groom poses, we call documentary wedding photography the narrative tool that expresses with art all the details of the day, emotional changes, characters, moments that make you laugh or tear, promises made and the big celebration.
If you want your wedding to be photographed in a documentary style, you must first agree with a photography team that is qualified to do so. We say team because one photographer may not be enough for documentary style shooting. Not missing simultaneous preparations and recording important moments from two different perspectives produces much more successful and satisfying results. If you want a short film, we can say that the team should at least double.
Let’s talk about the couples… You saw the documentary wedding photos, you liked them and you want to have photos like that too. The only thing you have to do here is to live that day to the fullest. Thinking about how you will appear while the photo is being taken or turning around and posing for the photographer at the most important moments can miss the magic of that moment. Your photographer will guide you where you need to pose. For this reason, try to forget about your photographer as much as possible and enjoy the moment and experience your emotions as you feel. If you have concerns about how you will appear in photos, which is perfectly normal, talk openly with your photographer. Specify what you want to change during the retouch phase. Although the purpose of documentary shooting is to reflect everything as it is, in wedding photography you are the hero of the day! Don’t worry about small details that may change. However, we must emphasize again that it is very important that you share this with your photographer during the preliminary meetings and that your style matches. While aesthetics are the priority for some Documentary Wedding Photographers, some do not intervene in Photoshop unless requested, and some may charge extra. Some of them do not intervene even if requested because they do not adopt the style.
